When vertically growing plants are placed in a horizontal orientation, the so-called gravitational stimulation acts on the plants, resulting in the upward and downward growth of the apical shoot and root tip, respectively. This phenomenon in plants is called gravitropism. Proteomics may be the most promising technique to identify the proteins that are induced, repressed, or post-transcriptionally modified during gravity response in plants. In this study, Arabidopsis root apices and Maize columella cells proteins induced and/or changed by gravitational stimulation were analyzed using a proteomic method. As a result, the beta subunit of the E1 component of pyruvate dehydrogenase, fructose bisphosphate aldolase, and 20S proteasome beta subunit E1 protein appeared in two different molecular weight types during gravitational stimulation in Arabidopsis. The transitory changes in molecular weight in these three identified proteins were important findings although their functions in the gravity response remain uncertain.
