The governing equations consist of two parts. The first part is the conservation law of mass, momentum and energy. The second is the equation of state and Hook's law. For those equations the method of retroactive characteristics is applied to establish high order accurate Godunov method. Finally verified is the present method through a few computational examples. The method gives rather good resolution for elastic and plastic
