One of the primal technologies demonstrated at IKAROS is the deployment of the sail whose diameter is 20m class. Before the launch, several numerical simulations have been performed in order to investigate the dynamics of membrane and to design a detailed deployment sequence. To analyze the dynamics of membrane, multi-particle models were used. After the launch, IKAROS performed the deployment sequence and have confirmed that the membrane was successfully expanded. In this paper, result data and observed dynamic motion via deployment are reported.
