The most necessary resource for such a manned base is water. Water is used in daily life, fuel, propellant valves, etc. Moreover, water is a convenient resource that can be preserved as ice in a permanent shadow on the surface of the moon. Unfortunately, the cost to carry water from the Earth to the Moon is high. This study examines a mission to divert a small comet to a lunar orbit as a means to acquire water resources from space.
