Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)), Sagamihara, Kanagawa Japan, The paper presents the Kalman Filter (KF) adaptation of the Tanygin-Shuster (T-S) weighted least-squares algorithm for spin-axis attitude determination. This KF method is suitable for sequential real-time applications. The iteration procedure which led to the unit-vector normalization in the least-squares version of the T-S algorithm has been modified for the sequential approach presented here. This iteration is beneficial for the stability of the attitude determination results.
