But under this condition the electron collection through the inter-connector of the solar cells becomes large in the environment of space plasma, and the possibility of the electrical discharge on the panel increases. It is necessary to suppress the electrical discharge that may cause an electromagnetic interference, the surface deterioration, and the circuit destruction.When the solar array has a positive electric potential with respect to the plasma space potential, the secondary electrons emitted from the surface of the panel can contribute to the electrical discharge. Therefore, there is a possibility that the electrical discharge can be suppressed by selecting proper material for the array panel. If we can control the emission conditions of the secondary electron, we can restrain the unwanted discharge of the solar array.Moreover, the electron collection by the inter-connector closely depends on the sheath structure surrounding the panel. There is a possibility that the electrical discharge can be suppressed by controlling the electrical potential distribution which depends on the solar cell distribution and form the sheath structure on the solar array. We carried out the plasma current collection experiments utilizing two types of simulated solar array panels that were covered with low and high secondary electron emission coefficients. In case of the high secondary electron emission coefficient materials, increase of the plasma current was observed when over several hundred voltage was applied. On the other hand, in case of the low coefficient, increasing of the plasma current was not observed.
