It was applied to a tether which is designed to stabilize attitude of a geostationary solar power satellite. ISAS has a conceptual design of solar power satellite which uses four tethers with end mass to stabilize its attitude. The tethers are assumed to be thin tapes because they seem more tolerant against collisions with space debris than conventional cylindrical strings. Their dimensions are 10 mm in width, 0.5 mm in thickness and 10 km in length. The satellite will be operated in GEO and required lifetime is 30 years. Characteristics of space debris in GEO are analyzed before the calculation of the survivability. The results shown validity of simplifications that most of effective objects are natural meteoroids with hypervelocity, incoming elevation angles are approximate to zero, and so on. Fatality rate for the cylindrical tether can be calculated by integrating product of effective cross section of the tether and flux of debris. Tape-tethers will easily twist, so that cross section of them to the incoming debris can be described as mean cross section around azimuth angle. After that, survivability of the tape-tethers can be calculated with same method for cylindrical tethers. According to results of the calculation, the survivability of the tape tether after 30 years is not sufficient, 66 percent for single tether, 19 percent for four tethers.
