This paper summarizes some of low-velocity solar cell impact tests conducted at the Kyushu University. The objective of the tests was to investigate the influence of impacts on the capacity of power generation of solar cells and the connection between the impact velocity and the damage shape of solar cells. The experiments stated in this paper were performed at low velocities of 91 m/s, 142 m/s, 189 m/s, 250 m/s, 284 m/s, 668 m/s and other three values using 47-milligram aluminum alloy spheres. The target plates were solar cells attached to aluminum-honeycomb sandwich panels having CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) face-sheets. The solar cells were 60 mm x 40 mm x 0.24 mm in size and the aluminum-honeycomb sandwich panels having CFRP face-sheets were 100 mm x 100 mm x 10 mm in size. The capacity of power generation of solar cells was lost when a slight damage was found, but the capacity was hardly lost when a comparatively large damage was found. The forecast of the impact velocity was possible to some degree from the damage level or the damage ratio. The damage level was defined by the diameters of hole of the target caused by an impact and the damage conditions of the target and the damage ratio was defined by the ratio of the diameters of hole caused by an impact to the diameter of a projectile.
