The in-depth density distribution within a heated ablative specimens is estimated using an X-ray computed tomographic image. The ablative test specimen is heated in a 750kW arc heated wind tunnel at JAXA/IAT. The cross sectional image along the centerline of the test specimen are obtained by using a micro-focus X-ray facility at Shimadzu corporation. In order to correct a well-known artifact in the CT image called beam hardening, a thin metallic plate is used. The obtained result shows a possibility that the char layer thickness can be recogized through the CT image, if effect of beam hardening is removed.
