The absorption cross sections of water vapor have been measured in the 0.94 μm spectral region for the purpose of observing the stratospheric water vapor concentration. The present work led to a value of 5 ± 2 × 10^<-21> cm^2, molecule^<-1> for the strongest absorption line at 944.089 nm in the σ-band of water vapor. Some problems on the measuring techniques and instruments are also discussed.
