A simple analysis has been carried out to examine acoustic characteristics of a vaneless diffuser through which incident plane waves propagate and radiate out circumferentially. This involves the evaluation of the radiation impedance of circum-ferential openings as well as the longitudinal wave motion in which the sound speed varies locally. An effect of the through flow deceleration is also examined. The results are shown in the form of a reflection coefficient which expresses the ratio of the incident and reflected waves at the diffuser inlet.
