An inlet distortion (ID) test was conducted to determine the effects of inlet pressure and/or inlet flow velocity diotortions on overrall performance of a highly-loaded axial-flow turbine. Two types of steel wire screens were used to produce two different axisymmetrical inlet distortion patterns. It was found that, especially during part-loaded operations, the distortions caused turbine efficiency drops of a few percentages. A detailed survey of the turbine internal flows including both the radial and circum-ferencial traverse measurements was aiso made.
