For Solar Power Satellites, voltages well above 1,000 V have been suggested. However, micrometeoroid impacts on such high voltage arrays may have catastrophic results. To assess these effects, contemporary GaAs modules and samples of the Stretched Lens Array (SLA) modules were exposed to hypervelocity impact with 100 micrometer diameter soda lime glass spheres at velocities up to 12 km/sec. The two strings of GaAs cells were held at differential voltages above 60 V and bias voltages near - 200 V. A plasma environment typical of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) was also present. The SLA was held at bias voltages up to - 1,000 V. Several types of arcs were observed in the GaAs strings.
