In order to satisfy agility requirement, a Control Momentum Gyro (CMG) is being focused on as a powerful torquer. A CMG has a flywheel mounted in a gimbal frame that can be rotated about the gimbal axis. In some gimbal angle configurations, the direction of torque generated by CMGs is restricted. These are called singularity states, and the singularity avoidance problem has been discussed in many papers. In this paper, a steering law based on manipulability is presented as a means of singularity avoidance. First, the manipulability of CMGs is determined. Next, a spacecraft control method and gimbal steering law are manipulated.
