In these experiments, described are the melting phenomena of a base metal and a filler wire, bead formation phenomena, effect of wire feeding speed on melting characteristics. Furthermore the butt welding joint was welded by the optimum wire feeding speed and the mechanical property was evaluated. Results in these experiments conducted in vacuum can be summarized as follows: 1) Melting phenomena of melt-run welding with a filler wire was basically the same that of with not a filler wire. 2) It was cleared that the effect of wire feeding speed on bead size and configuration. 3) Mean value of tensile strength of butt welding joints that was made using d.c.-pulsed GHTA welding in vacuum was
