The time evolution and vertical stratification of viscosity is very important factors controlling the response. However, conventional viscoelastic calculation schemes have several problems in handling temporal and spacial variation in viscosity for long-time simulations. In this study, we propose a new formulation of the constitutive equation of a Maxwell viscoelastic body to resolve these problems. Compared with conventional time-domain schemes involving first-order approximation in time, our second-order-approximation scheme fo the constitutive equation shows improved accuracy and stability for long time steps.
