In recent years, to reduce CO2 emissions, and to save the fossil fuels from depletion, there is a movement going on to switch from ordinary energy systems to new style of power generation method, which is more friendly to the environment. In this report we introduce SPS, Solar Power Satellite, which is launched into geostationary orbit, converts solar power into microwave power, and then send the energy down to the earth. In the space, the efficiency of the solar energy acquisition rate is 5 to 10 times more than when it is received on the earth. It is predicted that the efficiency of the wireless power transmission exceeds 50%, and this shows that there is a possibility that the system can generate more electricity, and it is 2.5 to 5 times more efficient than the utilization ratio on the earth. Also it can be a good way to stop global warming, because this system emitts no CO2.SPS was first proposed in 1968, research has been advanced. However, there is still a long way to go until the implementation. According to the survey done by MRI, recognition of SSPS is only 30% among people; therefore it is necessary to enlighten people for SPS to make great progress. To make this happen we decided to create a demonstration model of SPS. Each of these systems are already used independently, but our next challenge is to formulate and operate this great system in the outer space environment. Therefore we use several models, including SPS model to show the audience if the system really works as we hypothesized.Figure 1 shows overall view of the demonstration model of SPS. HID lamps are replaced as sunlight and it converts the electricity into microwave and then rectified to operate a samall wheel and miniature train. They show us how the energy is transferred and used on the earth. Our next task is to improve the accuracy of the "microwave beam controlling technology", and to increase the power conversion rate. |
