This paper is concerned with the wind tunnel test results of Winged Space Vehicle executed in 1984 and 1985 at National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) in Tokyo. The test was conducted and supported by Working Group for Development of a Winged Space Vehicle at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) to obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle recently studied in a preliminary aerodynamic design phase. In the present study, attention has been paid to both longitudinal and lateral/directional stability and controllability at high angles of attack in high speeds that will be encountered by the vehicle at its reentry flight. Test results are summarized in terms of aerodynamic coefficients and their derivatives. Detailed discussions are made to reveal the relations between vehicle configuration and aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle. |
