Development of 18% Ni maraging steel for rocket motor cases during the past six years is reported. The fundamental research on strength, ductility, notch toughness of both the base material and welds are described. Results of hydrostatic tests of the model vessels to establish the structural integrity and to verify adequacy of the material selection, fabrication techniques and heat-treatment methods are described, and finally the application to Mu and Lambda rocket motor cases are briefly reported. |
