We have recently devised an extremely high-speed kinematographic camera capable of taking photographs at all speeds up to the rate of 40,000 per second. The normal speed projection, at the rate of 16 pictures per second, of the prints obtained from these original negatives gives then an apparent reduction of 2,500 times in the speed of movement of the object photographed. About 1,000 photographic impression can be taken on the film of 4 metre long in this machine. Various photographs of the motion of sound waves inside a cylindrical and an elliptic shell taken with this machine are shown. |
